3rd Grade News November 26 - 30 This Week’s Focus Memory – The Second Article of the Creed - the meaning Religion - Why is the Reformation important? Who is a Saint? Unit 2 Test and Why do we call God our Father? Language Arts - See handout that was sent home. Math – This week we will be covering fractions, estimating sums and differences, pictographs, and writing directions.  There will be a test on Thursday. Spelling – Contractions Handwriting – Lower case cursive letters Social Studies – We will continue Unit 3 over Geography and the way we live. Science – We continue in Chapter six with lesson three over rocks and minerals. We have a couple tests coming up this week other than our normal Friday Language Arts test.  There will be a test in Religion and in Math on Thursday. The Religion test will be done together in class. This week we will also start practicing our music for the Luncheon with the ladies of St. Stephens.  This eve

3rd Grade News November 19 - 20 This Week’s Focus Memory – The Second Article of the Creed without the meaning Religion - What did Martin Luther do? Language Arts - Main Idea and Details Turkey and Thanksgiving Reader’s Theater Math – Xtra Math facts practice, we will pick back up with lessons after Thanksgiving. Spelling – None Handwriting – Lower case cursive letters Social Studies – We will continue Unit 3 over Geography and the way we live after Thanksgiving. Science – We will continue Chapter 6 after Thanksgiving. It is hard to believe that the end of the first trimester has already come and gone.  How fast this year is moving! We will continue our math centers/small group instruction after Thanksgiving break; as well as our usual Language Arts routine. During the first trimester I allowed students to correct homework and tests.  In the second trimester I will follow the policy handed out in the parent handbook at the beginning of the school

3rd Grade News November 12 - 16 This Week’s Focus Memory – Hebrews 11:3 and Deuteronomy 32:6 Religion - What is the Church? Who was Martin Luther and what did he do? Language Arts - See separate sheet sent home. Math – Lessons 25 through 29 over counting and subtracting money, comparing and ordering numbers, subtracting across zero, and parts of a whole. Spelling – Consonant Digraphs Handwriting – Lower case cursive letters Social Studies – We start Unit 3 this week over Geography and the way we live. Science – We learn about the Weather and Climate this week. Math Centers went well the first two days.  I do think that doing math this way will be very helpful when we start getting into some more difficult concepts.  We are quickly coming up to fractions which can be tricky to understand and then multiplication will soon follow that. 3rd Grade News for the Week of November 5th

3rd Grade News November 5 - 9 This Week’s Focus Memory – The First Article of the Creed.  We will do the first half Wednesday and the second half on Friday. Religion - What is the Church? Language Arts - See separate sheet sent home. Math – Practice for our math centers and starting our Math centers on Thursday with lesson 23. We will cover lesson 23 and 24 this week over subtracting three-digit numbers and column addition. Spelling – Words with spl-, str-, thr-, scr-, and squ-. Handwriting – Lower case cursive letters Social Studies – We finis up lesson two over Finding Places in the United States this week. Science – We learn about the Water Cycle this week. I look forward to getting back to a more normal routine this week.  With Science Fair over we will kick off a new science chapter about Earth and Weather, starting with the water cycle.  We will also get to start our small group instruction in Math this week using our Math Centers. We are back
