3rd Grade News 9-30 to 10-4

3rd Grade News September 30 - October 4 This Week’s Focus Memory - 7th and 8th Commandment and their meanings Religion - We continue talking about the Holy Spirit; how he brings us to faith, keeps us in faith, and how we are sanctified. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Math – We will finish up addition this week and take a test over addition on Thursday.  We will then start subtraction on Friday. Spelling – Week Five Words: vowel diphthongs Handwriting – We continue lowercase cursive letters this week. Social Studies – We continue Unit 1 over understanding the geography of the world.  We will finish up this unit with a test on Friday. It was a rough week last week with not following directions, being very talkative, and not following expectations.  It is my hope that this new week will be better. 3rd Grade News September 23 - 27 This Week’s Focus Memory - 5th and 6th Commandment and their meanings Religion - This week we will finish Unit 1 with a test on Tuesday.  Then we will start talking about the Holy Spirit; who it is and how it brings us to faith. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Math – This week we continue our chapter on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Spelling – Week Four Words: vowel digraphs Handwriting – We are starting lowercase cursive letters this week. Social Studies – We will start Unit 1 over understanding the geography of the world. We continue our learning this week with the start of new chapters in several subjects.  Since we have finished chapter 1 of science we will move into social studies this week. Students will spend time learning about the geography of our world world.  We will work on being able to identify where we are in the world compared to other places. 3rd Grade News September 16 - 20 This Week’s Focus Memory - 3rd and 4th Commandment and their meanings Religion - This week we are learning about law and gospel, the six chief parts of Christian doctrine, and the first table of the law. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Math – This week we finish up our chapter on rounding and estimating w ith a test on Monday.  Next we will be covering the chapter on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Spelling – Week Three Words: base words and endings Handwriting – We finish our introduction to cursive writing this week. Science – We will finish our chapter over Earth and weather with a test on Thursday. We are so close to our class reward.  Just a couple more sticks and students will be rewarded with a fun class activity.  Keep working hard at being quiet and paying attention to directions. 3rd Grade News September 9 - 13 This Week’s Focus Memory - 1st and 2nd Commandment Religion - Why should we study the Bible?, What tools help us study the Bible?, How do we learn and use God’s word?, and What are the Law and Gospel? Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Math – This week we continue learning about rounding and estimating. Spelling – Week Two Words: plurals -s, -es, -ies Handwriting – We continue our introduction to cursive writing this week. Science – We will talk about Landforms, weathering, and erosion this week. The class is almost half way to their first class reward.  Continue transitioning quickly and quietly, lining up in a single file quiet line, and not talking in the hallway! As homework starts coming home you will notice returned assignments with a date written on them.  These assignments can be corrected for half credit and returned by the date. 3rd Grade News September 2 - 6 This Week’s Focus Memory - New Testament Books of the Bible Religion - Why is the Bible important?, What does it mean to be a Christian?, and Why should we study the Bible? Language Arts - See the sheet that was attached to the newsletter last week. Math – This week we will start our unit over Place Value. Spelling – Week One Words: short vowels; syllables vc/cv Handwriting – We will start cursive writing this week. Science – We continue our unit over earth science.  We will talk about Minerals, Rocks, and Soil this week. The students worked hard last week and I was impressed with some of their skills.  A few things that we need to work on are: listening during instruction time, listening to and following directions carefully, and lining up quickly and quietly.  These are things that we will focus on this week in order to earn our first class prize. I am still missing a few parent/guardian letters.  T
