  3rd Grade News January 31 - February 4 This Week’s Focus Memory - The Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer and Meaning Religion - We will continue in Unit 4 with lessons 57-60 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Suffixes Handwriting – This week we continue learning our capital cursive letters. Math - We will finish up our study of division with a test on Tuesday.  We will then begin our study of area. Science - We will complete our chapter over Matter with a test on Thursday. CLS needs your help.  We are asking families to think about getting a hard copy of our Open House flyer and post it at your work or somewhere in your community.  We are trying to get the word out about our school and we would greatly appreciate your help in doing so.  You can send Mr. Parris, Mrs. Seeck, or me a message and we will send home hard copies of the flyer.     3rd Grade News January 24-28 This Week’s Focus Memory - The Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 106:1 Religion - We will continue in Unit 4 with lessons 55-59 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Prefixes Handwriting – This week we continue learning our capital cursive letters. Math - We continue learning about division this week.  We will start looking at division facts for 8,9, 0, and 1. Science - We will continue in Ch 8 over Matter. This week we are starting an art project that will take us a few weeks to complete.  We are studying artist Louise Nevelson.  There will be a letter coming home about items that we will need in order to complete our projects.  The students in the past have really enjoyed this art project and I look forward to seeing this class’s take on it.   3rd Grade News January 18-21 This Week’s Focus Memory - The Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer and 1 Timothy 2:4 Religion - We will continue into Unit 4 with lessons 54-57 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Vowels -r Controlled Handwriting – This week we continue learning our capital cursive letters. Math - We continue learning about division this week.  We will start looking at division facts for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Social Studies - We finish our study of immigration with a test on Thursday. Science - We will start Ch 8 over Matter with an experiment. This Friday the student council is holding a family movie night.  We will be showing Space Jams (with Michael Jordan).  It is $8 per family which includes popcorn for everyone.  Bring your chairs, blankets, pillows, and beverages and enjoy a nice evening with your family.         3rd Grade News January 10-14 This Week’s Focus Memory - The Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer and Mark 1:15 Religion - We will continue into Unit 4 with lessons 51-54 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Irregular Plurals Handwriting – This week we continue learning our capital cursive letters. Math - We will finish up our first division unit with a test on Wednesday.  Then we will spend some more time working with division in chapter 4. Social Studies - We will continue learning about immigration and how people become a part of our country. Second quarter ends on Wednesday, January 12.  The work from last week will be going on to the 3rd quarter so that students have time to make corrections.  We will have winter testing next week, when hopefully we have all students in attendance. Math - We now begin working on division.  We will start with our introductory lessons from chapter 1. Social Studies - We will start Unit 4 over immigration.
