Third Grade Herd

      3rd Grade News January 2-5 This Week’s Focus Memory  - No Memory This Wee Religion - This week we start Unit 5 over The Lord’s Prayer with lessons 49-51 Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Consonant Patterns wr, kn, gn, st, mb Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive capital letters. Math -This week we start learning about division with chapter one lessons 5, 6, and 7.  We will also be taking timed multiplication tests on Wednesday. Science - We kick the new year off with chapter 7 learning about machines. Thank you for the wonderful Christmas presents.  I pray that your break was a restful one, in which you got to contemplate the amazing gift of our Savior, Jesus. We will be starting an art project in the new year that will require some help from you.  Attached is a flyer about the supplies we will need for this project.         3rd Grade News December 11-15 This Week’s Focus Memory -Matthew 1:21-22 and John 3:16 Religion - This week we continue Unit 4 with lessons 44-47 Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Suffixes Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive capital letters. Math -This week we finish chapter 3 with a test on Tuesday.  We will then be practicing our multiplication until Christmas Break. Social Studies - This week we are finishing up chapter 3 on how geography affects our community.  Students will create a brochure for one of the places that we studied in class.  We will finish the unit with a test on Friday. This week we have the Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.  I am still in need of drivers for this trip.  I need transportation for 9 more kids.  If you are available to help please let me know. Next week is also our Christmas concert at school.  Doors open at 6:00.  My classroom door will not be open until 6:15, so please keep your studen

      3rd Grade News December 4-8 This Week’s Focus Memory - Third Article of The Apostles Creed Religion - This week we continue Unit 4 with lessons 40 - 43 Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Spellings of /j/, /s/, /k/ Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive capital letters. Math -This week we will work on our, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 times facts. Social Studies - This week we continue unit 3 on how geography affects communities. Every year the third grade class goes over to St. Stephen’s Church in Atkins for a Christmas Luncheon with the Ladies Society.  We will be going over to Atkins on Wednesday, December 13th.  We will need drivers for this trip, so if you can help in this way please let me know as soon as possible. Your child might have shared with you a change I have made in the classroom recently.  I was not getting a chance to go over papers with students at school after they had been graded.  To try to make up for this fact I have star

    3rd Grade News November 27 - December 1 This Week’s Focus Memory - Second Article of The Apostles Creed pt 2 Religion - This week we start Unit 4 with lessons 37-40 Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Prefixes Handwriting – This week we finish learning about the lowercase cursive letters and start learning capital cursive letters. Math -This week we learn multiplying by 9, practice multiplying, and how to multiply by three factors. Social Studies - This week we start unit 3 over how geography affects communities. This week I will be checking all assignments before they are turned in, in an effort to get students more focused and putting their best effort into their work.  Effort and focus have been an ongoing problem that is definitely affecting grades.  I have been talking with the class regularly about how they have to put in the work in order to truly learn.   3rd Grade News November 13-17 This Week’s Focus Memory - Second Article of The Apostles Creed pt 1 & 1 Timothy 2:5 Religion - We continue unit 3 over God the Father with lessons 32-35. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Contractions Handwriting – We will continue learning our lowercase cursive letters this week. Math -This week we start chapter three which covers the rest of our multiplication facts (3, 4, 6, 7, 8, & 9). Science - We finish our chapter on motion, force, and speed with a test on Tuesday. Please be working with your child on their multiplication facts.  We will not be moving on from multiplication until after Christmas Break.  Multiplication is an important foundational skill that will appear on work for the rest of the year.     3rd Grade News November 6 - 10 This Week’s Focus Memory - First Article of The Apostles Creed Religion - We continue unit 3 over God the Father with lessons 29-31. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Consonant Digraphs Handwriting – We will continue learning our lowercase cursive letters this week. Math -This week we will continue practicing our 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10 multiplication facts.  We will take the chapter 2 test on Friday of this week. Science - We continue learning about motion, speed, and forces. We have a field trip on Wednesday this week.  We will leave right away at 8:30 in the morning.  Students need to bring a sack lunch to eat when we return.  I can not guarantee that we will be back in time for the early bus, so that is something to think about if you have a child that normal rides the early bus.  Since we are gone on a field trip Wednesday, chapel will be on Thursday this week. Language Arts - See the attached sheet. Spelling – Words with  spl, thr, squ, str, scr Handwriting – We will continue learning our lowercase cursive letters this week. Math -This week we will finish chapter two with a test on Friday. Science - We start learning about motion, speed, and forces. This week we get back to our normal schedule.  Coming home today are a couple of different things; one is your child’s first quarter report card and the second is a permission slip for our fieldtrip next week.
