Third Grade News: September 25-29

    3rd Grade News September 25-29 This Week’s Focus Memory - 5th & 6th Commandments & Meanings Religion - The students will play a review game on Monday and test on Tuesday over our first religion unit.  We will then start talking about the Holy Spirit with lessons 13 and 14. Language Arts - See attached purple sheet. Spelling – Vowel Diphthongs Handwriting – We continue learning our lowercase cursive letters with l, b, and h this week. Math -This week we will finish up the addition portion of chapter 8 with a test on Thursday. Science - We will continue learning about the scientific process and the engineering process. We have now been in school for a month.  This means that students will start to lose credit for not having their name and number on their papers.  Each student will also go down to having only 4 cubes for the day and we have new seats this week.     3rd Grade News September 18-22 This Week’s Focus Memory - 3rd and 4th Commandments & Meanings Religion - This week we will discuss the Law and Gospel, the six chief parts of the small catechism, and the first table of the law in lessons 10-12. Language Arts - See attached purple sheet. Spelling – Long Vowel Digraphs Handwriting – We continue learning our lowercase cursive letters with u, w, and e this week. Math -This week we will start Ch8 over addition and addition properties. Social Studies - We will do the map portion of our unit 1 test on Monday. Science - We will start chapter 1 about the scientific method. In Math, we are starting chapter 8 about addition.  In this chapter, we will discuss many different ways for the students to add.  I do not expect them to master every way that we talk about.  Students will be able to use whichever method they like on the final test.   3rd Grade News September 11-15 This Week’s Focus Memory - 1st and 2nd Commandments & Meanings Religion - This week we will discuss why we should study the Bible, tools to help us study the Bible, how we learn and use God’s word, and what the Law and Gospel are in lessons 7-10. Language Arts - See attached purple sheet. Spelling – Base Words and Endings Handwriting – This week we will be practicing one mur cursive handwriting stroke and we will start with cursive lowercase i and t. Math -This week we will be taking our aMath test, and finishing up Ch 7 with a test on Tuesday.  Depending on how the tests go, we will either review Chapter 7 skills and retaking the test, or start on Chapter 8 over addition. Social Studies - We will finish up Unit 1 with a review on Monday and Tuesday and a test on Thursday. This week we have a fun activity to look forward to.  On Friday we will have Johnny Appleseed Day.  The students and I will make homemade applesauce.  A special guest will

    3rd Grade News September 5-8 This Week’s Focus Memory - Books of The NewTestament Religion - This week we will discuss the Bible and what it means to be a Christian in lessons 5 & 6. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Plurals Handwriting – This week we will be practicing different cursive handwriting strokes. Math - Estimating sums and differences are up this week.  That will finish off chapter 7, so we will have a review on Thursday and Friday. Social Studies - This week we will talk about states and capitals. This week we continue our learning journey.  The students did well last week learning routines, and I look forward to that continuing this week.  There is an Open House, Dinner, and PTL on Thursday night this week.  Please come in to see what we have been working on, enjoy some food, and learn about what is to come this school year thanks to our PTL.
