      3rd Grade News August 29 - September 2 This Week’s Focus Memory - Books of the Old Testament Religion - This week we will cover lessons 1-4 about who God is, how we know him, and what the bible is. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Short Vowels: Syllables VC/CV Handwriting – We are continuing to review our manuscript handwriting this week. Math - We are starting our first math unit this week.  We should get through three lessons that cover place value and rounding. Social Studies - We start the year with Social Studies.  We will be learning about hemispheres, oceans, continents, countries, states, and communities. Welcome to week two.  This week we dive into our normal classes and getting used to our weekly schedule.  Students did a great job last week paying attention and learning our rules and expectations.  I pray that we will have a successful week full of learning!     3rd Grade News August 23 - 26 This Week’s Focus Memory - Books of the New Testament Religion - This week we will practice finding Bible verses and do some Bible Trivia. Language Arts - We will spend our time learning and practicing our classroom expectations. Spelling – Our first spelling list of the year is made of 10 words that the students will use frequently this school year. Handwriting – We start our year practicing our manuscript handwriting. Math -  This week we will practice our math centers and go through our math class expectations. Social Studies/Science - These two subjects will trade off throughout the year.  We will start with our first science unit next week.     3rd Grade News May 16 - 20 This Week’s Focus Memory - 2 Peter 3:18 Religion - This week we cover lessons 97-100 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Related Words Handwriting – We finish the year with a cursive letter introducing ourselves to Mrs. Maddick. Math - This week we will finish up chapter 14 over graphs and take our timed tests for the last time. Social Studies - This week we will finish Unit 8 over the economy. This is our last full week of school.  While I know we are almost at the end, we will still be having regular classes.  There will still be assignments to complete but these will mostly be completion grades since we won’t have time to do corrections.   3rd Grade News May 9 - 13 This Week’s Focus Memory - Revelation 2:10 & 1 Corinthians 11:26 Religion - This week we cover lessons 94-97 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Final Syllables Handwriting – We continue practicing our cursive handwriting. Math - This week we finish up Chapter 13 over quadrilaterals.  We will not test over this chapter but will complete the review for a regular assignment grade rather than a completion grade.  We will then begin Ch 14 which covers graphs. Social Studies - This week we will finish Unit 7 over different cultures of the world.  We will then start Unit 8 over the economy.         3rd Grade News May 2 - 6 This Week’s Focus Memory - Luke 11:28 & Luke 1:45 Religion - This week we cover lessons 91-93 Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Final Syllables Handwriting – We continue practicing our cursive handwriting. Math -  This week we finish chapter twelve with a review Monday and test on Tuesday.  We will then start chapter 13 over geometric figures. Social Studies - This week we will start Unit 7 over different cultures of the world. This week we have our field trip.  Please pay close attention to the weather for that morning as we will be outside.  Students may want to wear older shoes since we will be walking around outside and looking at animals.  Students do not need to bring a lunch because it is provided for us at the fairgrounds that day.       3rd Grade News April 25 - 29 This Week’s Focus Memory - Matthew 26:28 & 1 John 1:7 Religion - This week we cover lessons 87-90. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Schwa Handwriting – We continue practicing our cursive handwriting. Math - This week we will continue chapter 12 with lessons 5-8 over measurements.  We will end the week with the chapter 12 review. Science - We will get through the rest of chapter 10 this week. We have drivers for our field trip next week.  Please sign the attached field trip form and return it to school by Monday, May 2.
