    3rd Grade News October 3-5 This Week’s Focus Memory - Psalm 18:2 Religion - We will continue our study on the Holy Spirit with lessons 16 and 17. Language Arts - This week we will start our first writing project.  Students will work on a narrative piece using our writing process. Spelling – No spelling this week.  If you want to get a jump on next week’s words by studying on Spelling City, our story will be Penguin Chick. Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive lower case letters, k and f. Math - This week we will finish up our addition portion.  Please remember students are able to use whichever addition method they like best on the test.  Science - This week we finish our first Science unit about the scientific method and scientists.       3rd Grade News September 26-30 This Week’s Focus Memory - 5th & 6th Commandments and Meanings Religion - This week we will have a test over unit one.  Then we will cover lessons 13-15 over who the Holy Spirit is and how it brings and keeps us in faith. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Vowel Diphthongs - ou, ow, oy, oi Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive lower case letters, l, b, and h. Math - This week we continue learning different methods for adding numbers.   Science - This week we continue our first Science unit about the scientific method and scientists. Students got their first Bingo party last week!  And this week we have our first seat change.  Our afternoons have been rough with paying attention and focusing on the work at hand.  Other than that, our days are starting to get into a good flow, and I am enjoying this great group of kiddos.     3rd Grade News September 19-23 This Week’s Focus Memory - 3rd & 4th Commandments and Meanings Religion - This week we will cover lessons 10-12 about law, gospel, six chief parts of Christian doctrine, and the first table of the law. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Vowel Digraphs ee, ea, ai, ay, oa, ow Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive lower case letters, u, w, and e. Math - This week we start learning different methods for adding numbers.   Science - This week we start our first Science unit.  Our first unit is all about the scientific method and scientists. Students have been working hard in the classroom.  We still need a few reminders to use our time wisely and to stay quiet while other students are working.  However, I am so pleased with the progress the class is making.  Our current math unit tends to give students (and parents) a hard time.  Please know that I do not expect students t...

  3rd Grade News September 12-16 This Week’s Focus Memory - 1st & 2nd Commandments and Meanings Religion - This week we will cover lessons 6-9 about what it means to be a Christian. Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Base Words and Ending -ed, -ing, -er, -est Handwriting – This week we continue learning our cursive handwriting motions and will start our letters with i and t. Math - We review place value, rounding, and estimating sums and differences.  We will have a test over this information on Friday. Social Studies - This week we finish up our study of geography and finding our community in the world.  We will test over this unit on Thursday. Please note that the only graded papers that I need to be returned to me, are those that your student has corrections on.  The signature slip just lets me know that you have seen their graded papers.  We are still doing a lot together in the third-grade room, however, this is the year students star...

Language Arts - See attached sheet. Spelling – Plurals -s, -es, -ies Handwriting – This week we start learning our cursive handwriting motions. Math - We continue using our place value and rounding skills to estimate sums and differences. Social Studies - This week we continue to learn about geography and how to find where we are in the world. We are slowly getting used to our schedule.  One thing we need to work on is being quiet during work time.  Otherwise, the kids have been great.  Coming home today are all the graded assignments from last week.  Anything with a smiley face cannot be corrected, everything else is fair game for corrections.  Please leave original answers and write corrected answers on the attached sheet.  T...
